Lovebirds giveaway winner and some Crafty stuff

Well, I'm only two days later to post than I said I would be.  Not too bad for the week that we've had here.  Last Saturday night our son, Cort (12 years old) broke both of his wrists falling from a Zip Line and let me tell you that is something that you never want to do.  Unless of course you want to have someone  feed you, bathe you, and help you with your bathroom duties!  Poor Cort... he has been such a trooper through it all.  He never cried, which I would have been doing and told him to feel free to do.  It was so hard to see him in that much pain and it took them 4 hours before they put him out and reset the bones.  Clean breaks in all four bones--yes he does nothing small when he does it. The morphine given to him during that time did not help, but after the bones were set he was a new boy.  Now we just have to get through  the next week and then he will get the splints off and the casts put on which will make him more self sufficient.

I just love him to pieces.....

The bag is for an Ipod (which I don't have) so I may just have to find another use for it because I'm pretty sure that Cort or David won't use it for theirs! ;-) 
 
 
I made the flower with cream colored twill tape and The Twinery string.  Once done I sprayed it up with some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist.  Love how the mist can add so much fun to a plain color.  All of the string used is from The Twinery.  I love their assortment of colors--go check them out when you have time, I know you'll need some for yourself!  The bird is a miniature version of the Lovebird.  Just shrink your pattern template down a bit in size.  I handstitched the pieces together for this one because I thought that it would be easier than sewing it on the machine.
 

Another quick share, I put together a new kit for The Scrappy Gourmet.  This hasn't been put up on the site yet, but should be soon.  Maybe over the weekend?  Here are a few images of the pages:
 

 

 

Made with a Melissa Frances Chipboard Bingo Card album and a ton of BasicGrey "Curio" collection items.  Amazing collection I think.

 

 

 

 

 
The alphabet stickers are all by BasicGrey and you will get some of them in the kit.  I also used 3 different sets of Hampton Art mini letter stamps and a StazOn black inkpad which you can find at The Scrappy Gourmet online store.  All of the buttons, ltrims, and embellishments will be included in the kit other than what I used to personalize my pages where I list my collections, interests, etc. 

Thank you so much for stopping by to read my little blog.  With this posting I have one more thing checked off of my long to do list. Tomorrow I'm taking a break from papercrafting work as I'm going to a bread making party at my sister's house.  Notice the emphasis on party!  We bought cute Pier one aprons for everyone and there'll be Chicken Tortilla soup (and fresh warm bread) for lunch.  I really need this day!  Will take some photos and share a recipe in my next post.  I have plans for another giveaway too, so be sure to check back in.

I'm off now to finish up wedding photos for this beautiful bride.  If I were this girls' mama I would blow that one up real big.

She lives!

Truly, I did not die......or leave the land of blogging forever.  Although, I did have the worst cold that I have had in years and may have felt like I was going to.  I still have a few symptoms, but it is so much better than it was 3 weeks ago.  All that I wanted to do was sleep, but didn't because I couldn't stop coughing.  Cort passed it on to me and when he had it we gave him a cough suppressant at night before he went to bed and there wasn't a noise from him during the nights of his bout.   No such luck for me.... I claimed my favorite chair in the living room as my bed at night so that I wouldn't keep everyone upstairs awake.

Spring is trying to make an appearance here in MN, but with almost 30" of snow that was in our backyard,  it's a slow process.  It's been raining for several days which is helping and I even saw a few spots of green grass today.  Last Saturday my husband saw robins in our big maple tree in the front yard, so spring can't be far away.  Yes!!!!  I am so ready for color.  I've seen enough white, gray and brown for now and need to see the fresh colors of nature as she awakens from a really long winter's nap.

I'm in love with these colors right now.
 
The spring egg images are from Pottery Barn , the rooms are from CountryLiving.com, and the flower images are from Irene Suchocki's Etsy Shop.  (FYI, Irene's photos sell for a very reasonable cost and they are so, so, so, beautiful.  I want to be her when I grow up ;-)   I love the teal blue and greens and the pop of pink's.  Just gorgeous-- I want to be surrounded by it all. 

I recently worked with some papers in these colors that were sent to me from The Ally Scraps Store and this is what I created.

 
That's a frame, not a layout (which it looks like it might be in the photos) and a fun butterfly and button garland strung onto thin jute string.  Would be cute for a party, shower, or a girls room.  The butterflies were cut from an AccuCut Die.  Check your local scrapbook store --you may just find the machine and diecuts there available for your use.

EDITED TO ADD:  I received this email from a reader and wanted to share it with any of you that are trying to make the garland and need a little more information.  Below is her question and my response.

"Hi Linda, first off I love your work! My friends and I are trying to make your Butterfly
and button banner. We are having trouble keeping our butterflies laying towards the room. Did you tie them in the back and did you use glue on the backs? They are darling, just frustrated they won't fly right! "

"Hi Cathy-

The larger butterflies have 3 pieces-- one large piece and 2 smaller.  Layer one of each of the small ones on either side of the larger piece so that it won't matter which way they fall.  For the smaller butterflies it is just 2 of the same size, but I used 2 sided papers so that it wouldn't matter to see both sides.   Or if you want to use only one patterned paper for each butterfly, just cut extra pieces of the same papers to back them with.  I did do that on a few of them.

Mine are laying flat on my photos because they are against a window.  I turned the butterflies when I did the photos so that people could see just one side.  I did not use glue or tie them-- just slipped the jute string through the 2 holes that I punched in each butterfly.  I tied the buttons in place though, but with the butterflies I'm able to slide them around a bit.  When you free hang the garland you can adjust them if you want, but I kind of like them not to be all facing the same way (for instance, some of them look like they are flying with the body facing toward the floor.)

A day late and a dollar short

Okay, I'm actually lots of dollars short after our shopping spree yesterday.  That's my excuse for not posting on Friday like I had said I would-- my husband and I decided to finish up our Christmas shopping.  We didn't.  Oh well, there's always next week and who doesn't like to battle the last minute shopping crowds in the mall? :-/

So today is packed full, but I wanted to jump on here to announce the winner of the Christmas Bingo Album kit.  Ready??????????????

I did another project for The Allyscraps Blog.  Please check out the other lovely projects on their blog also--they have a great design team and guest designers, like Morag Cutts--you should see her last blog post project.  It's a sweet little Christmas countdown calendar using my favorite Eskimo Kisses by BasicGrey.  It's the cutest!

My project is a sparkly Christmas stocking filled with sweet little winter time goodies.

The stocking is made from chipboard and covered in beautiful paper from Fancy Pants.  The little snow guy is part clay and part styrofoam and the star is paper mache.  I plan to draw up a pattern and write up the instructions for the stocking part, so if you want the template, please request it in the comment section of this post.  It may take me a couple of days to get it off to you, but I'll get them out asap.   
 
One more thing... this is up for sale at The Scrappy Gourmet.  It's so much prettier irl...sparkly little touches too.
